If memory serves, I was in a teen dance club when I first heard it. The searing guitars. The thump-steady bass. That space-y bridge. And of course, the voice. So young, so powerful, so full of hope and questions about life, love and the world.
The song was U2′s “I Will Follow” and it was different than anything else I’d ever heard. It had something special.
It wasn’t long before I had that record and the follow up, October, in heavy rotation on my piece of crap record player. I was shocked, stunned and mesmerized by these albums. But it wasn’t until War that I knew I would be a life long U2 fan.
